Oneonta, not to be confused with the New York city of the same name, is the county seat of Blount County, Alabama. As of the 2010 census, Oneonta had a population just under 6,600. Named after Oneonta, New York, Oneonta has had an operating post office since 1889.
Educationally, Oneonta is home to Oneonta Elementary School, Oneonta Middle School and Oneonta High School. The city also hosts the annual Covered Bridge Festival, the Blount County Memorial Museum and Palisades Park.
